I put off beginning my blog for so long because I just couldn’t pluck up the courage to take outfit photos. I desperately wanted to show off my favourite clothes but I just couldn’t take myself seriously. However, after finally deciding to just go for it six months ago, I have picked up a few tips on how to build up your confidence in order to get blog pictures you are really proud of.

Something I have learnt very quickly is to not take blog photos if you aren’t in the right frame of mind. If you don’t want to be there or aren’t enjoying yourself, it’ll come across in your photos. The best thing to do is to just rearrange it for another day but if you can’t do this, just do what you can to cheer yourself up. Maybe get the photographer to tell a few jokes, which is something I often have to get my boyfriend-turned-photographer to do when I have a resting bitch face. (See below pictures)

If you can get a friend or family member to take the photos, it makes things so much easier and it is ideal to start out with somebody you already feel comfortable with. If they aren’t quite camera-savvy, it wouldn’t hurt to both go through pictures online that inspire you and discuss the type of images you would one day like to achieve. If you are both new to it then the best thing you can do is just wing it and pick it up as you go along. I think even if you are posing with a professional photographer it is still really helpful to do research on the type of images you want for your blog. I’ve been quite lucky to have a boyfriend who studied cinematography and knows how to work a camera. However, one thing I’ve learnt from doing blogger shoots with a boyfriend is that they might purposely try to annoy you in order to get a funny pic… or four…

As I mentioned in this post here, one of the most off-putting things about getting outfit pics is that passers-by will often stare at you or sometimes say something. It can be so annoying and distracting but if you just keep going, you will soon get used to it. Also, it might help raise your confidence if you start getting your photos in a more secluded area until you are ready for a busier atmosphere.

Another thing I have learnt from researching online and shooting with the fabulous Hannah, is that the more you move in your photographs, the more natural they will look. This sounds like quite an obvious point but for a while I kept posing in the same way and my photos often looked too stiff. I think trying to walk is the best way to naturally pose for a picture when you are starting out and getting used to it. You would be surprised at how much of an impact swinging your arms around or opening up your jacket can have on your photos. I also really like working with different photographers because it brings new ideas to the table and allows you to mix things up a bit!

It can be easy to feel a bit silly when posing for blogger photos and as much as you should get the pictures you want – try not to take it too seriously. It is all good fun and I think it is important to poke fun at yourself every once and a while because if you aren’t a trained model it is quite hard to get a perfect picture immediately. If you end up accidentally pulling a daft face or look particular moody in a shot – it is absolutely fine to laugh at yourself. However, I think it is important to not finish a shoot until you are completely happy with the images. The last thing you want is to end up with photos you wouldn’t be proud of.

  1. This makes me so happy 😊 I thought I was the only one that feared posing for pictures. I’m still terrified lol, probably because I need to find a good person to take the pictures. Thanks for these tips, you look amazing in all the photos!

    1. Hiya, SO sorry for the late reply! I’ve had a bit of a break from my blog. Not at all, I think most people do find it pretty daunting and worry about what others would think but once you get going and become happy with the photos you’re taking, I think you’ll definitely get more used to it and start to enjoy it! Aw thank you so much 🙂 xxxx
