I think we all get to a point in our lives when we realise who our real friends are and who aren’t. It is in my nature to be quite trusting and I always want to see the best in people, even if they don’t deserve it. This is why it is so frustrating when they let me down. I have never had a huge group of friends but I definitely believe that quality over quantity is so important when it comes to friendship.

Quite a few of my friendships over the years have ended because after a while I realised that it isn’t worth making an effort with people if they aren’t returning it. I do believe that some people are only supposed to be in your life for a certain amount of time and then you grow apart and become different people, which is absolutely okay but it doesn’t mean that it is easy to accept at the time. I have often felt like a break up between friends is so much harder than a romantic break up because usually, when a friendship ends, you don’t get any closure, it just ends. A lot of the time it isn’t even because of a specific reason and sometimes you don’t even know why it ended. However, this does show who your real friends are because they will make sure that this doesn’t happen.

I have several friends that I have known for years and years and even though we might only see each other every now and then, we make sure that we both make an effort and when we do meet up, it is like no time has gone by. When something big happens in your life, whether it is good or bad, the people who are there to support you are the ones that you should keep around. I think that is the true test of friendship. The people who are checking how you are doing when you are going through a tough time and the people who are cheering you on when you are celebrating, are your real friends.

In my experience, I know when I have found a good egg from the moment I meet them because we just instantly click and I can see that they are the type of person that I want to be around. Sometimes no matter how much you want a friendship to work, if you have to force the conversation or it feels like a chore to see them, it just isn’t right. Having interests or hobbies in common with someone is obviously a good start but I don’t think it is essential for a friendship to work. If you like the company of somebody because they are kind, funny or supportive and you are interested in how you are both doing then I think that is all you need.

However, I have learnt that if you see a personality trait in somebody that you don’t like, then maybe it is time to take a step back. I think sometimes people can make it appear like they are your friend because they want something and when that changes, this is when you see their true colours. In the past I have given people the benefit of the doubt when I shouldn’t have and it ended up coming back and biting me on the bum! If somebody doesn’t bring anything positive to my life, they just aren’t worth my time. This can be hard to accept because when you believe that somebody is kind and a true friend and they turn out not to be, it is easy to feel a bit silly and let down. However, one thing that you need to keep reminding yourself is that this isn’t a reflection on you but it is a reflection on the type of person they are and you should be thankful that you aren’t like that.

This post has been a bit of a random one I must admit but I began this blog as a way to express myself and I have always used writing down my thoughts and feelings as a way to declutter my brain and to move on from anything that is a struggle. Especially when you don’t have closure on a situation, writing everything down can make it much easier to accept, in my opinion.

To finish off, lets finally take a look at this beaut outfit now shall we? I don’t think I will ever fall out of love with this faux fur coat, it is just stunning and always makes me feel amazing. I paired it with a robot print t-shirt because I just can’t resist an item of novelty clothing but I then kept it quite simple with a pair of jeans. This rainbow striped cross body bag brings a touch of extra fun to this look and I completed this outfit with some metallic pink midi-heels and my trusty hoop earrings.

I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post and if you have anybody in your life that is bringing you down or you think might not be a gooden, maybe it is time to take a step back.

  1. I cannot agree more with this post! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. Wow. I’ve put together a similar post (no yet up) about describing 20’s in a nutshell and you hit the spot on friendships seriously. I love your blog girl! Xx
